It was concluded that the significant word count difference affected their vocabulary, language development and reading comprehension. However, it was still unclear how this word gap might affect changes in the brain. A <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Language Environment Analysis (LENA) was used to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">analyze<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">number of words <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">spoken by or to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the child, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">number of times conversational turns<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> occurred. Researchers <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">predicted that the more conversational turns that occurred between an adult and child, the more differences in brain physiology would be <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">found.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rather <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">than word count being the most important factor in the development of vocabulary, language and reading comprehension, it is actually the conversations that take place between an adult and a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">child. Results<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also showed that children who were engaged in more conversation had a more active Broca\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">area. Rachel <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Romeo,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the lead author, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stressed that, \u201cThe important thing is not just to talk <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> your child, but to talk <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> your child. It\u2019s not just about dumping language into your child\u2019s brain, but to actually carry on a conversation with them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The research team also wanted to see if socioeconomic status played any role in the brain development <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">process. It t<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">urns out that although children from higher income families did tend to get exposed to more language, usually leading to more developed communications skills, children from lower income families were also able to reach similar levels. If the children from lower income families were able to engage in a higher number of conversations, they were able to<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have just <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as active <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Broca\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">area, and<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> similar language skills.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MIT researchers involved with this investigation hope that the evidence from their findings will inspire parents to carry out more conversations with their children, not only between the ages of 4 to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6.
