In a document released by the <\/span>Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council, the Chinese government outlines their goals for preschool education over the next few years. Li Xia reports on this matter in <\/span>her article <\/span><\/a>for Xinhua. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the document<\/span>, the government promises to increase financial input into preschool education, especially for the rural and less wealthy areas in central and west China. Their priority is to make preschool affordable to everyone. They are also concerned that the proportion of expensive, high-end kindergartens is too large.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2020, it is estimated that 85% of pre-schoolers in China will be enrolled in certified kindergartens. The document also estimates that 80% of those students will be studying in affordable kindergartens. In addition, China aims to enroll more than 200,000 university students into preschool education degree programs annually from 2020. The country will also train 1.5 million preschool teachers and education leaders. The government hopes that by 2035, preschool education will be available to all children of the appropriate ages.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governments of all levels are now encouraged to establish public kindergartens. Half of all preschool children may be in public school by 2020. At minimum, each township are to have one public kindergarten, and a large village should have one public kindergarten or a branch.
