See here<\/a> for some justification of the Common Core approach. It’s worth asking if students at this (age-seven) level are capable of the conceptual understanding assumed by the Common Core approach (allowing them to avoid memorizing and applying the \u201cstandard algorithm\u201d that has been traditionally taught).<\/p>\n\n\n
